Arabic manuscript on paper, 294 leaves calligraphed in Maghribi script, 19 lines per page, divided into four chapters. The manuscript opens with an illuminated frontispiece (sarlowh). Dated on the colophon. Bound in red morocco with flap, decorated with an embossed central mandorla and gilt fillets.

Condition: Very good overall condition, with several copyists.

Although famous, Dawud al-Antaki's work has been relatively little copied: one copy is kept in the Bibliothèque Royale al-Hassania du Maroc (Ms. 89; cf. Sijelmassi, Enluminures des manuscrits royaux au Maroc, 1987, p. 21), and another, dated 1838, in the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha (Add. MS 12187). This treatise brings together a vast corpus of traditional medicinal knowledge, describing the therapeutic virtues of plants, herbs and other substances.
