This collection illustrates the development of gold coinage in Morocco between the Almohad period and the Saadian dynasty. Almohad and Marinid issues perpetuate the tradition of epigraphic dinars of the medieval Maghreb, while Saadian coins bear witness to Morocco's political and economic revival in the 16th and 17th centuries, against a backdrop of intensifying Mediterranean and trans-Saharan trade.
A set of five Moroccan gold coins, Morocco, Almohad, Marinid and Saadian dynasties, 12th-17th century.
