Description
Set of three gold coins
Morocco, 14th-17th century
Comprising :
A Marinid dinar in the name of Sultan Abû Sa'îd 'Uthmân (r. 1310-1331), struck in Sijilmassa.
A Marinid half-dinar (mint illegible).
An Alawite dinar in the name of Sultan Moulay Ismaïl (r. 1672-1727), struck in Fez, weight: 3.46 g.
The dinar of Abû Sa'îd 'Uthmân, minted in Sijilmassa, testifies to the importance of this workshop in trans-Saharan trade in the 14th century. The presence of an Alawite dinar of Moulay Ismaïl, minted in Fès, marks the resumption and consolidation of monetary authority in Morocco in the modern era.
