Set of six gold coins Morocco, Almohad, Marinid and Saadian dynasties, 12th-16th century Comprising : A gold Almohad half-dinar, lettered "س", (Hafsid half-dinar (1229-1574) weight: 2.26 g ; A Merinid quarter dinar in gold, 14th century; A gold Saadian dinar of Sultan Abû Muhammad 'Abd Allâh al-Ghâlib (AH 965-981 / 1557-1574), weight: 3.89 g ; A gold Saadian dinar of Sultan Abû al-'Abbâs Ahmad (AH 986-1012 / 1578-1603), weight : 4.76 g ; A gold Saadian dinar of Sultan Abû 'Abd Allâh Muhammad III (AH 981-983 / 1574-1576), weight 3.76 g ; A gold dinar probably Marinid 1245-1465. Provenance : French private collection of Mr V. F. We would like to thank Mr Anthony Camos, expert, for his contribution. The Saadian dinars reflect the assertion of Cherifian power against a backdrop of intensifying Mediterranean and trans-Saharan trade. The reign of Abû 'Abd Allâh Muhammad III ended with the battle of Oued al-Makhâzin (1578), known as the "Battle of the Three Kings". A set of six Moroccan gold coins, Morocco, Almohad, Marinid and Saadian dynasties, 12th-16th century.
