Safavid Kendi with carnations and tulips Iran, probably Kirman, 17th century A lavender blue slip ceramic pear-shaped vase with white decoration under a transparent glaze, with brass mounting. The body is decorated with arabesques and bunches of flowers. Condition: Chipped glaze. H. 27.5 cm (10.8 in.) Trade between the Islamic world and China has been intense since antiquity. Kendis were exported from China to Europe, Iran and the Ottoman Empire, where they were copied and adapted to suit local tastes.
