Ⓛ Muhammad Baqir al-Majlisi (d. 1698): Zad al-Ma'ad Copied by Ibn Muhammad Zaki, known as Abu'l-Hasan Qajar Iran, dated 4 Rajab 1232 AH (AD 20 May 1817) Arabic manuscript on paper, 263 leaves, calligraphed in black naskh on 24 lines per page, alternating with a Persian interlinear translation in red nasta'liq, the key words highlighted in red ink; the text is framed by double blue and gold fillets, with a claim in the lower margin. The illuminated opening bifolium features rich polychrome and gilt decoration - floral borders and a finely painted frontispiece (unwân). The colophon is signed and dated by the copyist. The contemporary binding is in Qajar lacquer with floral motifs. Condition: Very good; minimal wear and light stains from handling. Muhammad Baqir al-Majlisi al-Isfahani (1627-1698) was one of the leading Duodecimal Shi'ite theologians of the Safavid period, serving as Shaykh al-Islam under Shah Sulayman (d. 1694). His best-known work, the Bihar al-Anwar ("Oceans of Light"), and the present Zad al-Ma'ad ("Provisions for the Resurrection") - a devotional collection of daily prayers - remain fundamental references in Shiite spirituality (cf. Encyclopaedia of Islam, Leiden, 1986, pp. 1086-1088). Muhammad Baqir al-Majlisi (d. 1698), Zad al-Ma'ad.
