FERNAND LEGOUT GERARD (1856–1924), ‘Market at Le Faouët – Brittany’, Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Provenance: Private collection. H: 60 W: 73 cm Framed. Note: A painter of the Navy from 1900 onwards, he became one of the leading figures in Breton painting of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His compositions give prominence to market scenes, harbours and ordinary people, observed in their everyday surroundings. *The Market at Le Faouët* reflects this interest in gatherings of ordinary people and the traditional costumes of Morbihan, a subject also explored by several artists from the Le Faouët colony. His works are held, notably, at the Musée d’Orsay and the Petit Palais.
