Description
[RELIGIOSA] Saint Christopher of Buxheim – embossed reliquary case. A luxurious reliquary case designed to hold a devotional engraving. This is most likely a bespoke case made in the 18th century to house a copy of the famous engraving of Saint Christopher of Buxheim, measuring 14.5 x 10 cm, which was in circulation in the late 15th/early 16th centuries. A two-part, interlocking case with a faux-marble interior lining. The front cover is magnificently embossed with a gold-plated design depicting the famous engraving of Saint Christopher of Buxheim (in the exact size of 14.5 x 10 cm), down to the finest details, including the caption at the bottom; the back cover is richly decorated with a Rococo design. H 15.6, W 11.6, D 1 cm total depth (reduced by approximately half due to the faux-marble interior lining)
