GERMANY. HESSEN. Rare spiked helmet, Model 1872/94, belonging to a reservist of the 24th Hessian Dragoon Regiment, with a patent-leather crown, round visor, nickel-silver fittings, front plate bearing the lion of the Grand Duchy, adorned at the base with a brass reserve cross marked ‘Gott-Ehre-Vaterland’, a screw-on fluted spire on a cross-shaped base, rear band with two fixing studs, chinstraps with domed silver-plated scales, Reich cockades and Grand Duchy ribbons, blackened leather inner lining with its lace, nape pad stamped ‘24 D.R.’ and dated 1907, not re-punched, bearing the name of the dragoon REUTER.
