Description
Souvenirs of General Charles-Louis Trémeau: RUSSIA. Order of the White Eagle, late 19th century. Knight's set comprising a pendant and a plaque. The jewel in chased and enamelled gold, weight: 81.55 g and size: 9.8 x 6.1 cm: gold hallmark 56, enamel (missing blue ribbon supporting the eagle), blue scarf; The plate in vermeil weight: 58.27 g and diam. 8.8 cm: vermeil, hallmarked with title 84 and on the pin, enamel; Case covered with Russian leather with gilded arms, trimmed with silk and cream velvet (accident to the hinge). ATTACHED: The award certificate, dated 13 November 1908, signed by the Chancellor and Secretary of the Chapter of Orders, dry stamp and 2 certified translations, one handwritten, the other typewritten. Handwritten note: "This decoration, the White Eagle of Russia, was presented by Colonel Count Nostitz, Russian military attaché, to General Trémeau, then Generalissimo designate of the French Army, who received it in his flat on Boulevard St Germain", with envelope. Trémeau Charles-Louis (1849 - 1915) A student at the École spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr in 1869 and 1870, he was second lieutenant in the 1er Régiment de marche des Dragons and took part in the Siege of Paris, before joining the École de Cavalerie in Saumur. Lieutenant in 1873, Captain in 1875, he was an orderly of the Minister of War, General Campenon, then ensign at Saumur, Chef d'Escadron in 1883. Chief of Staff of the 2nd Cavalry Division, Lieutenant-Colonel in 1890, second-in-command of the Saumur Cavalry School, then Deputy Chief of Staff at the Ministry of War. He commanded the 4th Regiment of Mounted Chasseurs from 1893 to 1900, with the rank of Colonel. Brigadier General in 1899, then Major General in 1901. Chairman of the Cavalry Committee, Vice-Chairman of the High Council of War in 1909. Provenance : -Descendants of General Trémeau
