Short jacket worn by kitchen servants attached to the Cent-gardes, made of red cloth, fastening straight down the front with five hooks, with white piping. Straight collar with a white-painted wooden ‘CG’ monogram and dark cloth facings. Shoulder tabs sewn into the armholes, made of silver braid. Scarlet canvas lining, marked in black paint with ‘Palais de Fontainebleau, Service de la Bouche des Cent Gardes’, serial number ‘345’ (crossed out) and ‘51’, framed at the top by imperial eagles and at the bottom by a stamp reading ‘Maison de l’Empereur, Service de la Régie du Palais Impérial, Compiègne’. Dated to the Second Empire period (moth damage, wear and tear, missing sections).
