Description
Sword of the King’s Bodyguard, 1814 model. Handle covered in stingray skin, with a watermark. Chiselled brass mountings. Long-tailed pommel. Four-pronged guard, including three secondary prongs, featuring a shell bearing the Arms of France, set against a bundle of flags and foliage. Quillon cut into a fleur-de-lis shape, hallmarked. Curved blade, with a flat back marked ‘Manufre Rle du Klingenthal Août 1814’, hollow edges and a fuller, hallmarked at the heel, engraved on one side with ‘Gardes Du Corps Du Roi’ framed by fleurs-de-lis and a trophy of arms, and on the other side a radiant sun, a shield bearing three crowned fleurs-de-lis and a trophy of arms. Leather scabbard, with three cut-out brass fittings, decorated with linework and hallmarked. Iron tip. (Signs of wear on the leather).
