A wooden box for a bicorne hat, shaped to fit, with a blue paper lining. On the exterior, handwritten in ink: ‘Le baron h Lacour, …, Lt Colonel … 4th Cuirassiers’. The exterior of the lid is covered in black-coated oilcloth. ABE, Second Empire period (signs of wear, damage and missing sections on the leather strap)
Lacour Henry Marie (1814–1895), 2nd Baron; attended the École Spéciale Militaire in 1832, expelled in 1834; served as a private in the 3rd Dragoon Regiment before returning to the École Spéciale Militaire in 1834; Second Lieutenant in the 60th Line Infantry Regiment in 1835, then in the 5th Dragoons; Squadron Commander in the 2nd African Chasseurs in 1854, then the 5th Dragoons and, in 1858, the 11th Dragoons; in 1860, Lieutenant-Colonel in the 4th Cuirassiers, then Colonel in 1870. During the War of 1870, he led a charge at the Battle of Reichshoffen.
