17th-century Dutch School, from the circle of Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt (Delft, 1566 – Delft, 1641). Portrait of a man wearing a lace ruff. Oil on copper. Oval, 7.8 x 6.1 cm. Minor losses and restorations. Later oval frame in gilded moulded metal, H. 11.6 cm (mounting in need of attention). Formerly in the collection of D. Hertogue, Antwerp; on the reverse, a provenance note by D. Hertoghe: Bernaerts auction, Antwerp, 21 October 2003, lot 444. Expert: N. Lemoine-Bouchard.
