H. 44 cm Related works: Vase of a similar shape with Japanese decoration by Ernest Chaplet and Edouard Dammouse, Musée d'Orsay, inv. RF MOOAO 2022 2 1; Vase "La sieste dans les hydrangeas", by Ernest Chaplet and Frédéric Hexamer, Musée du Petit Palais, inv. PPO03702. History: The rosary mark on our "H & Cie" vase is that of the workshop opened by the Haviland factory in 1882 and directed by Ernest Chaplet, who marked an important stage in the rediscovery of stoneware, one of the most popular materials for artists and architects at the end of the 19th century. Our vase belongs to the "grès bruns" period, produced by Ernest Chaplet in his rue Blomet workshop between 1882 and 1885. The original idea was to leave the clay visible by engraving the decorations and leaving certain parts of the vase in reserve, without slip.
