SILVER COVERED BOWL, MASTER SILVERSMITH PIERRE-ANTOINE GRANDGUILLAUME, RECEIVED IN 1773, BESANÇON, CIRCA 1773 plain, the ears with contours, scrolls and shells; the lid with doucines, surmounted by the grip in the shape of an artichoke on a terrace of foliage, engraved on the body and lid with the coat of arms of a covenant, surmounted by a marquis's crown. Hallmarks on the body and lid: ville, maître orfèvre, letter date. (Restoration to the lid at the fixing of the grip, minor knocks and scratches from use) A SILVER ÉCUELLE AND COVER, MARK OF PIERRE-ANTOINE GRANDGUILLAUME, BESANÇON, CIRCA 1773 GROSS WEIGHT: 900 g - 31.74 OZ 11,50 x 29,50 CM - 4,5 x 11,6 IN. A similar bowl, same silversmith, same year, is reproduced in Les orfèvres de Franche-Comté, Solange Brault-Lerch, plate LXXXI, no. 3, Genève, Droz, 1976.
