Description
WALL CLOCK BY CAUSARD, LOUIS XVI PERIOD in the form of an arched escutcheon, in ormolu with channels, in which is inscribed the white enamelled dial with Arabic numerals at five minutes and Roman numerals for the hours, signed CAUSARD. Hger DU ROY/SUIVt. LA COUR. It is flanked on the sides by ram-headed pilasters surmounted by grained foliage with a laurel wreath. It is topped by a draped covered vase with a Grecian handle and a corolla of opposing foliage at the bottom. (Damage, missing parts and restorations) CARTEL, CAUSARD CLOCKMAKER, LOUIS XVI PERIOD 82 x 39 x 12,5 CM - 32,2 x 15,3 x 4,7 IN. Edme-Jean Causard (circa 1720-1780) became "Horloger Privilégié du Roi" around 1753. He collaborated with the best bronzemakers for the creation of the cases of his clocks, such as Jean-Joseph de Saint-Germain, Nicolas Petit and Osmond.
