A collection of four prints relating to North America under British rule, mainly photogravures published by Manzi-Joyant & Cie, successors to Goupil, circa 1900, including two or three from the second edition.
Including:
The British Entry into Philadelphia, 1777 and other scenes after Henry Alexander Ogden (a few marks in the margins);
*After the Ladies Left the Table, Virginia 1750*, a colour photogravure after Thure de Thulstrup (a few marks and traces in the margins).
Three further items are included:
Washington’s Birthday, 1879. After Charles BAUGNIET (1814–1886). Photogravure published by Goupil on 1 October 1879. A fine print on China paper mounted on vellum. 55 x 42 cm + margins. (Note the differences compared with the painting held at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, notably the American flags added on either side of Washington’s portrait);
Marquis de La Fayette, Commander of the National Guard, aquatint by P.-L. Debucourt, from a late print run (yellowed print, with a few tears roughly mended);
Morning Parade in front of the Tower of London, colour photogravure after Edouard Detaille.
Sheet dimensions (including margins): from 51 x 38 cm to 80 x 59 cm
A total of seven pieces.
Minor imperfections.
