Description
VARIA
A set of 23 prints, including ten in colour, printed on vellum, mainly photogravures published by Goupil & Cie or by its successors Manzi, Joyant & Cie, between 1880 and 1900.
Various genre subjects, hunting, fishing and decorative compositions after Munier, De Jonghe, F.-H. Kaemmerer, Stead, Barclay, Schlesinger, Maud Goodman, Poittevin, Ridgway Knight, Heywood Hardy, George Earl, Farquharson, Halfnight, Rudaux and Compte Calix.
Sheet dimensions (including margins): from 60 x 46 cm to 68 x 95 cm.
The set is in good condition. However, there are a few signs of wear in the margins here and there, foxing on five or six plates and a few small marginal tears that do not affect the compositions.
Goupil & Cie, founded in Paris in 1829, was one of the leading publishers and art dealers of the 19th century, specialising in the distribution of prints and reproductions of works of art. At the end of the century, its activities were continued by Manzi-Joyant & Cie, renowned for its luxury illustrated editions and its innovations in photogravure.
