Description
Antoine COYSEVOX (1640–1720), after Madonna and Child, known as Our Lady of Graces Bronze figure with a brown patina, signed and dated 1670 on the reverse. Thiebault Frères foundry mark. 53 x 23 cm. A reproduction of Coysevox’s marble model housed in the Church of St Nizier in Lyon. What makes this piece distinctive is that our bronze is dated 1670, whereas the original marble sculpture is thought to have been carved in 1676. Our sculpture is comparable to a plaster model, also dated 1670, which was sold at the Hôtel Drouot by Pierre Bergé et Associés on 27 January 2021 (appraised by Cabinet Fligny).
