Arthur Jacques LEDUC (1848–1918) The Cuirassier of Reichshoffen, 1873 Bronze sculpture with a brown patina, signed and dated on the plinth. Inscribed: ‘Reichshoffen 1870’. 61 x 63 cm. Bibliography: KJELLBERG, Pierre, “Les bronzes du XIXe siècle”, *Dictionnaire des sculpteurs*, Les Éditions de l’Amateur, Paris, 1987, p. 421 An example is held at the Museum of Art and History in St Lô, Normandy. The work depicts the Battle of Reichshoffen (which actually took place at Woerth and Froeschwiller) on 6 August 1870 and the defeat of the French cuirassiers, led by Mac Mahon, at the hands of the Prussian troops.
