Founded in the early 19th century by Jean-François Denière (1774–1866), the Denière firm was one of the leading Parisian manufacturers of decorative bronzes of its time. Specialising in the production of chiselled and gilded bronzes, it produced, in particular, clocks, candelabra, chandeliers, mantelpieces and decorative objects, combining rich ornamentation with high-quality craftsmanship. Under the leadership of Guillaume Denière (1815–1901), who succeeded his father, the firm continued to grow and took part in the major World’s Fairs. It received major commissions for royal and imperial palaces, as well as from an international clientele, contributing to the influence of French decorative arts in the 19th century.
