Description
Nuna sceptre, Mossi, Burkina Faso
Wood with a brown patina
L: 59.5 cm
Provenance: Maine Durieu Gallery
A rare Nuna diviner’s sceptre, combining the features of several animals. The main motif evokes the description of a bird with a long, tapered beak forming a crook, whilst the bulging eyes are reminiscent of a chameleon, here enhanced by a finely executed incised motif.
Note the antique patina of this traditional object.
