URBINO Round dish with a slightly hollow basin (tondino) in majolica, with polychrome decoration in the centre of a love, a flame in the hand, in a medallion on a yellow background surrounded by a bianco sopra bianco garland. The wing is adorned with a scene from the Annunciation (?); to the left an angel with his finger raised to the heavens and to the right a woman standing three-quarter facing him. Paving in the foreground, architecture and drapery. Yellow border. 16th century Diam. 23.5 cm Restoration to the rim, a hair on the reverse, chips. Provenance: Collections of Raoul Heilbronner, Maurice Stora, Jacqueline Stora and by descent Note: A tondino a istoriato "the death of Achilles" with the same very special paving in the foreground is reproduced in Greta Kaucher's book, Le peintre du Marsyas de Milan.
