Description
An ormolu and chased bronze "La maternité" clock depicting the Duchesse de Berry breastfeeding the Duc de Bordeaux, with her daughter Louise praying in front of the bassinet. The bronze dial shows the hours in Roman numerals and forms the pediment of an architectural design decorated with drapery and swans, the caryatid uprights surmounted by Egyptian heads. It stands on a base with an arched projection decorated with garlands, flowers and profiles in medallions, and finished with tapered legs.
Restoration period.
Height: 40 cm. Width: 29.5 cm. Depth: 15.5 cm.
(Wear to the gilding).
Our clock was made after a design by the bronze-maker Jean-André Reiche (1752-1817), who made many other models during the Empire and the Restoration.
