Description
Bruno Mathsson Book Crib Book holder Teak and beech Firma Karl Mathsson, Värnamo, Sweden Date of design: 1941 H25 W50.5 D27 cm Signs of wear and a small chip on one corner With the Book Crib, Bruno Mathsson applies to the smallest of domestic objects the same logic that governs his chairs: a form dictated by use and by movement. Books rest at an angle, with their spines visible, in an open cradle that makes them easy to browse. The design, with its great simplicity, dates from the years when Mathsson was refining his vocabulary of curves and light-coloured woods, prior to his post-war international recognition.
