Description
Severin Hansen Pair of square coffee tables Rosewood veneer Produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, Denmark Circa 1960 High table: H50.5 W84.5 D84.5 cm Coffee table: H47 W84.5 D84.5 cm Severin Hansen designed furniture for the Haslev Møbelsnedkeri workshop – one of the firms that were then responsible for the reputation of Danish cabinetmaking – characterised by great restraint, where the quality of the veneer serves as the decoration. These two square tables, of slightly different heights, can be arranged side by side or offset, in the style of a two-tiered tray. The straight legs join the apron via a mitred joint, a discreet hallmark of Hansen’s design. The striking grain of the rosewood, displayed across a large surface area, makes these pieces representative examples of 1960s Danish Modern.
