Description
Swedish piece Three-drawer chest Elm Date of creation: c. 1930 H70 W80 D41 cm Visible signs of wear At the crossroads of Nordic classicism, known as ‘Swedish Grace’, and functionalism, Swedish cabinetmakers of the 1930s favoured local timbers and clean lines. This elm chest of drawers is a fine example: the front is defined solely by the wood’s grain, with six horizontal wooden handles arranged in pairs and a central keyhole on each drawer. The short legs and the honey-coloured elm lend the piece a warmth that sets it apart from more austere functionalist furniture. A practical piece with just the right proportions.
