Description
Virginie Manivet Vase Porcelain, hand-painted decoration Date of creation: c. 1995 H37.5 D17 cm Slight original firing crack (visible in the last photo) and a few very slight chips in the paintwork on the decoration. Virginie Manivet’s work was exhibited by the Galerie En Attendant les Barbares / Frédéric de Luca Virginie Manivet’s work was exhibited by the Galerie En Attendant les Barbares, associated with the name of Frédéric de Luca, who in the 1980s and 1990s was one of the leading figures of French ‘new design’, alongside Elizabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti. This porcelain vase embodies that spirit: a simple form serving as a backdrop for a free-spirited and colourful hand-painted design, which brings the utilitarian object closer to a work of art. An accessible testament to a Parisian scene that was then revitalising the decorative arts through imagination and artistic expression.
