Description
German work Sculpture Ceramic Marked ‘G81’ Date of creation: 1981 H13 D15 cm Very slight chip around the rim This piece is part of the German studio ceramics movement of the 1970s to 1990s, known as ‘Studiokeramik’, which brought together ceramists such as Beate Kuhn, Karl and Ursula Scheid, Horst Kerstan and Jan Bontjes van Beek. This movement, drawing on Far Eastern traditions and abstraction, champions high-temperature ceramics in which form, glaze and firing are all mastered by a single artist. The ‘G81’ mark, which likely combines an initial and the year of creation, has yet to be identified. A small-scale sculpture, representative of this demanding school.
