Model produced by the foundry Susse Frères from 10 July 1919 to December 1930. H6 L6 P4 cm Good to very good original condition, with a few slight marks visible in the photographs. Édouard-Marcel Sandoz was a Swiss-born animal sculptor. He also designed porcelain models for Haviland. His work forms part of the Art Deco tradition of animal sculpture, alongside that of François Pompon, Rembrandt Bugatti, Georges Guyot and Armand Petersen. His animals can also be compared to the bestiary of François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne. Bibliography: Félix Marcilhac, *Sandoz, Figurative and Animal Sculptor*, catalogue raisonné of his sculptural works, Éditions de l’Amateur, Paris, 1993; this piece is listed under no. 650 and reproduced on p. 372. A Swiss-born animal sculptor, Édouard-Marcel Sandoz ranks amongst the masters of Art Deco animal sculpture, alongside François Pompon, Rembrandt Bugatti, Georges Guyot and Armand Petersen. He also created porcelain designs for Haviland. His animals, with their simplified forms and poses captured with humour, foreshadow in certain respects the bestiary of François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne. The little rabbit with its ear pricked up, a recurring motif in his work, is listed in the catalogue raisonné compiled by Félix Marcilhac, a reference work that provides detailed documentation of its production by Susse Frères.
