Description
Anonymous Brutalist candleholder Steel Circa 1970 H42 P21 cm Very good original condition, traces of surface oxidation. With its chunky forms and unfinished steel, this candleholder embodies the Brutalist aesthetic that characterised the decorative arts of the 1960s and 1970s. It can be compared to the creations of Léopold Gest and the Artisans de Marolles, a group centred around Jean Touret, who championed the craft of hand-forged metalwork. It also reflects the spirit of Pierre Sabatier and Curtis Jeré, who used raw metal as a medium for artistic expression. The slight traces of oxidation contribute to the character of this piece, which has an almost sculptural presence.
