Description
PANOPTIKUM Autumn Mirror Decorative glass, with different finishes for the legs depending on the season: A chemical oxidation reaction of iron particles in the painted coating. Staining and varnishing of solid oak. Metallic paint with a pearlescent effect. Vacuum deposition using a bespoke copper-based formula, creating a lilac (purple) colour on the stainless steel Date of creation: circa 2020 H210 W90 D10.8 Weight: 20 kg Entitled ‘Autumn’, this large mirror forms part of a series centred on the cycle of the seasons, each represented by its own distinctive finishes. For this piece, Panoptikum combines several techniques: the induced oxidation of iron particles within a painted coating, evoking rusted foliage and stained oak; pearlescent paint; and a copper-based vacuum deposition, which gives the steel a lilac hue. Standing over two metres tall, the piece is as much a mirror as it is an installation. A work in which research into surfaces becomes the very subject of the artwork.
