Description
Borek Šípek (1949–2016) & David Palterer (1949) Model 201 Vase For Alterego Circa 1990 H35.5 W28 cm Bořek Šípek, a Czech architect and designer based in the Netherlands, founded the Alterego design studio in Amsterdam in the mid-1980s with architect David Palterer. The publisher’s pieces are hand-blown in Nový Bor, Bohemia, the cradle of a centuries-old glassmaking tradition. Šípek, who also worked for Driade and Néotù, developed a baroque and poetic style there, in contrast to minimalism: undulating forms, appendages and vibrant colours. This vase is part of this body of work, at the crossroads of Bohemian craftsmanship and European postmodernism.
