Pair of lamps
Plexiglas and stone
Signed ‘West’
Second half of the 20th century.
H46 cm
In very good original condition, not electrified
This pair of lamps creates a striking contrast: the transparency of Plexiglas, an industrial material emblematic of the 1970s, and the raw texture of a fragment of rock. The treatment of Plexiglas is reminiscent of the work of François Arnal and Atelier A, or Michel Dumas. The juxtaposition of natural stone and manufactured material also recalls the Japanese Mono-ha movement, exemplified in the late 1960s by Lee Ufan, Nobuo Sekine and Kishio Suga, which created a dialogue between stone, glass and steel. A unique pair, straddling the line between a light fitting and a work of art.
