Description
Alfonso Liporesi Side table Zebrano veneer Date of creation: c. 1940 H81 W100 D50 cm Zebrano, an African wood with contrasting grain reminiscent of a zebra’s coat, was one of the favourite precious timbers of cabinetmakers during the interwar period and the 1940s. This side table makes full use of its decorative effect: the carefully arranged veneer allows the grain to be the piece’s principal ornament. With its understated lines and console-table height, it belongs to the realm of luxury modernist furniture, at the crossroads of late Art Deco and rationalism. A finely crafted piece of cabinetry, where the material itself is sufficient to create the decoration.
