Anonymous, in the style of Alexandre Noll Box Wood carved directly from the block Circa 1955 H9 L7 P2.5 cm Alexandre Noll developed a unique approach to direct wood carving—without sketches or models—blurring the lines between sculpture and functional objects: boxes, bowls and furniture emerge from the very grain of the material itself. This small box embodies that spirit. Carved from a solid block, it allows the grain to dictate its curves and offers the hand a smooth, continuous surface. The 1950s saw several craftsmen and sculptors follow the path pioneered by Noll, in search of organic form and a direct relationship with the wood. An intimate object, in pocket size.
