Description
Jacques Jarrige (born 1962) Lamp Ménine Bronze Cast by the Chardon foundry in Paris. By Jacques Jarrige for the En attendant les barbares gallery. Signed ‘J. Jarrige’. 1993 With lampshade: H38 D16.5 cm; without lampshade: H19 D10 cm Through its title, this lamp evokes Velázquez’s *Las Meninas* and invites the viewer to interpret the object as a small court figure. Jacques Jarrige belongs to the generation of designers brought to prominence by the En Attendant les Barbares gallery, which also represented Élizabeth Garouste, Mattia Bonetti and Éric Schmitt. His style, characterised by supple, anthropomorphic lines, is part of the poetic French design movement of the 1990s, alongside that of André Dubreuil and Mark Brazier-Jones. The casting, entrusted to the Parisian foundry Chardon, bears witness to the care taken with these limited editions.
