Throughout his career, François-Xavier Lalanne made animals the central theme of his work, often giving them a practical function: sheep-seats, rhinoceros-desks, hippopotamus-bathtubs. This hen-shaped egg cup follows the same logic, on a scale suited to the breakfast table, with a clear sense of humour: the hen cradles the egg. The matt white porcelain body captures the purity of the simplified forms characteristic of the artist. Produced by La Porcelaine de Paris, it offers a chance to experience Lalanne’s bestiary in an intimate, signed and marked format.
