The title refers to the Hameau de la Reine, an idealised rustic village that Marie-Antoinette had built at Versailles from 1783 onwards, complete with thatched cottages, a mill and a dairy. Juliette Teste draws on the idea of a dreamlike, rural architecture, which she translates into stoneware. The sand mixed with clay, the engobe and the glaze give the surface a contrasting texture, ranging from roughness to gloss. A recent sculpture that plays on historical and decorative memory, in an intimate format, straddling the line between a model and a poetic object.
