Based in Vallauris, Albert and Pyot Thiry were part of the village’s golden age of ceramics in the 1950s and 1960s, alongside Pablo Picasso, Roger Capron, Jean Derval and the Madoura workshop. Their work is characterised by a stylised and whimsical bestiary, which transforms the utilitarian object into a small sculpture. This bird-shaped trinket tray is a typical example: the animal form gives the object its structure whilst lending it a playful quality. A charming testament to the vibrant ceramics scene on the Côte d’Azur.
