Description
MAARTEN VAN SEVEREN (1956–2005) SCH99, known as Schraag Collapsible trestle Produced by Bulo, Belgium Year of creation: 1999 H73 W50 D85 cm A contemporary interpretation of the traditional trestle, the SCH99 model combines three slender aluminium legs with a support unit: one vertical leg and two angled legs ensure its stability. The legs unscrew and stow away inside this element, which then forms a portable case. The trestle can accommodate a tabletop chosen separately. A leading figure in Belgian design, Maarten Van Severen has built a body of work characterised by extreme rigour, in which every piece of furniture is the result of a relentless quest for the perfect form, from the aluminium Low Chair to the .03 chair produced by Vitra. The SCH99, or Schraag (‘trestle’ in Dutch), reinterprets a workshop object: three slender aluminium legs – one vertical and two inclined – are screwed into a support unit. When dismantled, they are stored within it to form a portable case. The trestle can be fitted with a tabletop chosen separately, depending on the intended use.
