Description
MAARTEN VAN SEVEREN (1956–2005) SCH99, known as Schraag Collapsible trestle Produced by Bulo, Belgium Year of creation: 1999 H73 W50 D85 cm A contemporary interpretation of the traditional trestle, the SCH99 model combines three slender aluminium legs with a support unit: one vertical leg and two angled legs ensure its stability. The legs unscrew and stow away inside this element, which then forms a portable case. The trestle can accommodate a tabletop, to be selected separately. Designed in 1999, a few years before the designer’s untimely death, the SCH99 illustrates the way Maarten Van Severen approached even the most ordinary objects: by stripping them down to the essentials, without ever compromising on functionality. The Belgian manufacturer Bulo, which specialises in office furniture, is responsible for its production. The concept of a collapsible trestle, whose aluminium legs stow away in their own holder, reflects his focus on mobility and flexibility in workspaces. When combined with a tabletop, it forms a desk or table with exceptionally clean lines.
