Eight aluminium panels are joined using stainless steel screws, making the piece collapsible and transportable flat-packed. The radical simplicity of the AL Desk gives centre stage to the interplay of proportions and materials that lie at the heart of Johan Viladrich’s work. On the scale of a desk, Johan Viladrich applies the constructive principle that underpins his work: eight aluminium plates, assembled with stainless steel screws, are all that is needed to form the piece, which can be dismantled and transported flat. Nothing is added to this structure, which in itself constitutes the design. The brushed and then waxed finish gives the metal a soft, satin-like surface that captures the light without reflecting it.
