Description
Kazuo Takiguchi (born 1953) Untitled Vase Glazed ceramic One-off piece, form created by suspension Date of creation: circa 2010 With its signed tomobako H36 W55 D24 cm A Japanese ceramicist born in 1953, Kazuo Takiguchi has developed a unique method: rather than building up or throwing the clay, he allows a slab of clay to take shape by suspension, under the influence of its own weight. The resulting form, billowing and supple like a sail or a bag, bears the mark of this accepted gravity, both controlled and left to chance. Measuring fifty-five centimetres across, this unique piece offers a generous and expansive example of this technique. It is accompanied by its tomobako, the wooden box signed by the artist which, in Japan, authenticates and protects exceptional ceramics.
