Description
Basse Stittgen (born 1990) Charred floor lamp Floor lamp Lignin derived from wood, cable and light bulb 2025 H77 W24 D24 cm For this low floor lamp, Basse Stittgen has moulded the material he has developed from lignin and cellulose – two components of wood – into a three-dimensional form. Lignin, long regarded as a waste product of the paper industry, is given a new lease of life here in a structural and decorative form. The dark hue of the Charred series, reminiscent of charred wood, transforms the unlit object into a matt, dense sculpture; when lit, it reveals a contrast between the light and the depth of the material. A piece that exemplifies the renewal of design through experimentation with bio-based materials.
