Description
Christian Duc Less is more Large lithograph 1989 Signed “Christian Duc”, titled “Less is more” and inscribed “for Michèle” H90 L74.5 cm In good overall condition, with a few creases. Through its title, this lithograph translates into French the phrase ‘Less is more’, associated with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and which has become the motto of modernism. Coming from a designer of the same generation as Philippe Starck, Martin Szekely and Pascal Mourgue – who revitalised French design in the 1980s – the quotation takes on a particular resonance, somewhere between homage and critical distance, in the age of postmodernism. Signed, titled and inscribed, the work showcases Christian Duc’s graphic design, which is less well known than his furniture. A unique piece, at the crossroads of design and printmaking.
