Description
Based on a design by Giacomo Balla Balla screen Plywood frame. Set comprising two sections, each consisting of three panels joined by folding hinges, with a screen-printed design (yellow, green, orange) on both sides. Produced by Simon International, 1971 Date of creation: 1916–1918 H200 W181 D3 cm Very slight signs of wear consistent with its age and use Bibliography: Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera, ‘Dino Gavina Ultrarazionale Ultramobile’, Editrice Compositori, Milan 1998, pp. 157, 158; Fondazione Scientifica Querini Stampalia, ‘Dino Gavina, collezioni emblematiche del moderno dal 1950 al 1992’, Jaca Book, Milan 1992, p. 94 A signatory in 1915, alongside Fortunato Depero, of the manifesto *Futurist Reconstruction of the Universe*, Giacomo Balla sought to extend Futurism to all objects of everyday life: furniture, clothing and interior design. This screen, designed between 1916 and 1918, embodies this ambition through a design of dynamic geometric shapes in bright colours. In 1971, Dino Gavina had it produced by Simon International as part of his initiative to reissue avant-garde works, which would lead to the creation of the Centro Duchamp. The screen-printed design on both sides allows it to be displayed freely in any space. The piece is featured in both reference works devoted to Gavina.
