Marc Lambrechts (born 1955)
In Square I, Marc Lambrechts explores themes of materiality, colour and geometry. The square composition and surface treatment are part of the artist’s characteristic abstract and minimalist practice, in which the materiality of the support plays a full part in the work.
In Square I, Marc Lambrechts explores themes centred on materiality, colour and geometry. The square format, the quintessential neutral and stable form, serves as a framework for surface treatment in which the materiality of the support plays a full part in the work. This approach is in line with abstract and minimalist explorations, which focus on painting as an object rather than as an image. The small format, framed in metal, lends the work a concentrated, almost precious presence that invites close observation.
