Table lamp
Moulded opaline crystal
H54 L41cm
Opaline, a milky, translucent glass, is one of the materials of choice for Murano lighting fixtures due to its ability to diffuse a soft, even light. Carlo Nason, who comes from a family of glassmakers on the island, uses it here in a generously proportioned table lamp, where the moulded crystal gives the form a sharpness of outline that glassblowing alone would not allow. When switched off, the lamp appears as a sculptural object in milky tones; when switched on, it becomes a source of enveloping light. A piece representative of modern Venetian lighting design.
